Thank you for this article! I tend to get mild eczema when it's cold out, so I cut down on the soap, started using mostly natural soap (expensive, but worth it), and mostly natural shampoo (Burt's Bees, every other week). The rest of the time I make do with baking soda (make paste, scrub scalp, rinse) and apple cider vinegar (dilute with water, pour over scalp after baking soda, rinse). My skin has gotten much better and my scalp is better than it has been in years, it itches much less, and my skin is much healthier too.

yay for (almost) no-poo!

and one unexpected (though perfectly logical) side-effect is that it's cheaper not to use shampoo and conditioner every day!

Your comment, nutrprofe, is very true (proving that you NOT, no matter what your name implies, a nutter-prof). Hence my recommendations that you can increase scrubbing your scalp and rinsing daily with water if you eliminate your Poo and notice flakes. There is a subset of people who are likely to get increased flakiness from seborrhea build-up. More scrubbing and more rinsing may help with, and can completely prevent the increased build-up in some of those souls. But if you have a blizzard case of dandruff, or a mild-weather form of seborrhea that threatens to turn into an ugly squall - you may discover in the end (no matter how much scrubbing and rinsing you do) that you need to Poo to keep it under control. Great question!

No poo may be good for eczema, but it can't be good for seborrhea, where you have excess secretions. Of course, it's argued that stripping away secretions with poo leads to overproduction, but in seborrhea you need to wash away the yeasty-beasties as well as the dead white cells. No?
