Awesome. You may also enjoy the AAFP's recent analysis of weight loss supplements. Their bottom line? "Currently, no weight-loss supplements meet criteria for recommended use." http://www.aafp.org/afp/20041101/1731.html

I'm going to link to your article in my weight loss group! http://www.revolutionhealth.com/groups/lose-up-to-20-pounds

I maintain that properly placed control panels in your string bikini -- will make dieting unnecessary. If only everyone knew the truth...

The most worrisome thing about Isogenics (from what I've been able to find online) is the absolute secretiveness of their ingredients. I also find anything that starts with a 2-day "cleanse" to be scary - usually that is code for a combination of starvation and diuretics. Diuretics produce fake weight loss through dehydration. Similar issues arise with the maple syrup/lemon juice approach. If you starve your body (with a liquid fast), what happens is that you wake up the MONSTER genes that have protected us from famine for generations. You think T.Rex is scary? Once your body thinks it's starving, there's not a calorie that will escape it's greedy clutches. Optimally, what you want to do is lull your metabolism monster into thinking nothing much is going on - we're eating just a little less than usual. Then we're walking just a bit more. Then a bit more. Then, dang, if you're not jogging part of the way. Tons of research shows that if you sneak the weight off (tip-toeing slowly into a new BMI), that weight is MUCH more likely to stay off - and you'll be a permanently new you, instead of a Diet Yo-Yo Victim of marketing. Patience, patience, and nurturing yourself for the long haul - that's what works. If it's a choice between the tortoise and the hare, in the end the tortoise always wins the weight loss race.

Great topic!
What do you think about the lemon juice/maple syrup fast thing going around? Please say it's bogus! Sounds dangerous to me. Mary

That is one detailed post DocGruly. I didn't see the article in circ before now and the association with artificial sweetened drinks (with a can of Diet C... in front of me as I type) -- great.
