Great -- after assisting on 4 billion parathyroid surgies in residency (and managing calcium problems post-op) I thought I knew the answer to this one when a vegan friend told me I needed more VitD. Looks like I'll have to eat my words (again). Thanks DG. Ian.

Eureka! A doctor whose mind has not been permanently closed by med school.

Almost all of the vitamins and minerals have been thoughly studied and experimented with for at least 60 yrs. I have been advising people who have given up on allopathic medicine for almost 43 years with theraputic levels of both types of supplements and dietary changes, with real successes in some very serious conditions, from urinary incontinence to Barrett's and cancer.

Happy to see that we are at last seeing a sea change, thanks in part to doctors being forced to look at natural medicine by the patients that they treat.

Because you work with the homeless it is vital that they be educated in keeping themselves as healthy as possible by using these supplements in preventative habits of health.

Love this blog!! More Docs with a real sense of humor and a humane outlook on the least of us is "an end devoutly to be wished".

With respect,
